What's with Rizal Life's connection to nursing curriculum?

I'm a nursing student here in the Philippines, and I'm in my junior level. I ask this because honestly, I have no idea why their is Rizal subject in our cl. I understand that his the National Hero, but Hello? What 's the relevance? And I guess its not only me hating History. Duh!
