Will we get any help if I was to lose my job?

Me and my fiance are in full time work and have been for years now, Monday - Friday 9- 5.30. My job however is looking even more unstable by the day. We are currently living in a 1 bed council house, saving up for our own place. If i was to lose my job would i get any help wat so ever to pay our rent, will it be reduced at all? as i will not want my other half to have to pay out for both of us. I know about dss, i work in the housing market at the moment although I don't know what the conditions are for this, i know its hard to get help when you actually work and lose a job legit.
