Band teachers, what kind flute should I "try" to get for my 7th grade child...this will only be her 2nd year..?

I am a single mom so $$ is tight but I want to get her a good playing flute, cash..if possible. music store has one for rent at 29.00 per month..Gemeinhardt 2SP. Is this a standard flute for students? Could she play this through high school? Any suggestions. thnks, connie
