How to make makeshift ipod speakers?

I'm going away for a little while and don't have any ipod speakers and also don't have any money for any. I saw the video about making it with the paper plate and the aluminum foil but read that it doesn't work. Is there any other way, or have you actually done that one and it worked? Thanks
